Lancashire – a Horse Lover’s Paradise

My Recent Trip Around the World

I booked it months and months in advance and was looking forward to my worldwide trip for ages. I was to literally circumnavigate the globe - leaving from Heathrow to Singapore on Boxing Day.

This flight was delayed and we ended up arriving in Changi Airport quite a few hours late. However, once we got to this beautiful city, close to The Equator, the sights and vibrancy of Singapore was totally worth it. Next, we had a flight from Singapore to Perth and this one was delayed by a more considerable period of time. In the end we arrived at Perth Airport in the early hours of the morning and we were totally exhausted by the time we arrived at our hotel.

Perth was wonderful: expensive, but a very different sort of city. Although it is a million-plus city, it still had a feel of a far smaller community - weird but good! Next came the Perth to Sydney flights and out of all the travel arrangements we had to do, this one was the best: it was actually on time - shock horror! - and as it was a domestic service in Australia, it was far easier. Cruising as a Travel Option

There was a time, and not so very long ago, when the very notion of cruising would see people turning green around the gills and this was not necessarily solely down to the contemplation of mal de mer. Cruising and shipping in general had a less than desirable reputation, but oh my goodness!, how things have definitely changed.

Today, cruising represents one of the most luxurious forms of travel you could ever imagine. Indeed, the average cruise ship is more akin to a five star floating hotel: opulence exudes around every corner of this floating paradise and you find it hard to believe that this is mainly a form of travel between different exotic ports.

The cruise ship, in itself, is for many people the main highlight of their holiday. The destinations being visited are merely an extra perk that is an added bonus. (more...)

A walking holiday in the sun or roam in the rain.

We are fans of the majestic beauty of Cumbria but without doubt we have to recognise that the weather can mean that you have to call off your walk whether it be at the bottom of the mountain or even before you start your trip

If you are already on a walking holiday in Cumbria then you are fully committed to the vagries of the weather. On the one hand we recommend patience and optimism because as the saying goes: if you do like the weather in Cumbria, wait five minutes. On the other hand you can consider a walking holiday in the sun in a Mediterranean country.

By far the most popular destination is Italy and with good reason. However we would like to recommmend other alternatives which offer a similar quality of trekking however you are far less likely to meet other walkers. Obviously you may lover to meet fellow walking folk and so have a totally different opinion. (more...)

The Delights of Malta

Are you stuck for travel ideas this year? If so, one small Mediterranean country may be just up your street - Malta.

From the cosmopolitan and surprisingly Anglophile capital of Valetta, to the other small island of Gozo, there is plenty to see and do on your stay in Malta. Whether you opt to stay in an hotel or even take Malta Villas near the coast.

Valetta is a particularly attractive city and the seafood and other restaurants are a real delight for your taste buds. The shopping is also wonderfully varied and enough to keep even the most hardened shopaholic entirely content. (more...)

Why Italy is Such a Popular Tourist Destination

From Tuscany to the toe of Italy, this southern European country has been attracting visitors in their millions for literally thousands of years and this is definitely not difficult to see why. The nations is so varied, there is bound to be something that will appeal to even the most discerning of traveller.

Starting up in the north of this beautiful country, you have The Dolomite Mountain range, on the border with Austria and Switzerland. This is where many Italians head for the winter skiing excursions and is a particularly picturesque part of the world.

Then we hit some of the great cities such as Milan and Venice: both are exceptionally popular attractions in their own right. Florence and Rome are equally welcoming millions of visitors every year and this is for the awesome museums of Firenze and the Roman ruins of the capital. (more...)

Fancy an Adventure Holiday in the Lake District?

As people are genuinely having to watch their travel budgets this year, as the Government insists on clawing-in as much money as they can get out of us all, remaining within the UK may prove to be the perfect answer. With this in mind, how does Adventure Holidays in Cumbria grab you?

The Lake District National Park has a natural draw all of its own anyway, but there are also specialised adventure holidays available in the area that will certainly appeal to those who are looking for an adrenaline-pumping getaway. Activities range from abseiling and mountain biking, to white-water-rafting and even bungee jumping.

For a slightly tamer pursuit, there are miles and miles of hiking treks to conquer throughout the park and some of these will take you high up into the mountains of the area. Then, of course, there are the largest lakes in England to enjoy here and this opens up activities such as sailing and kayaking. (more...)

Holidaying in The United Kingdom

Plenty of people are turning their attention to taking a holiday within their own country this year. Flights and accommodation seems to have gone through the roof abroad lately, and the old fashioned package holiday is nothing like as good a deal as it was about 15 years ago.

Whether you favour a hiking holiday in the Highlands of Scotland, or maybe Cumbria Golf Holidays, there is no end of destinations to visit and every conceivable type of activity to keep you entertained.

This year, more than any other, the tourist industry of the UK really needs to be supported. Why head abroad and channel money into foreign economies when charity can begin at home, for once, and we can do something to get our own nation back on its feet? (more...)

When Holidays Become Your Way of Life

Although the slumps in international housing markets have undoubtedly deterred many people from moving abroad, there is still a big contingency of people that have the dream of turning their holiday into a completely new way of life. This will never change and such people will usually do all they can to make this come about.

Whether you are looking to Buy Algarve Property or even something much farther afield, in a new continent perhaps, this can become the ultimate dream that will simply keep you going until you reach that final goal.

But what about when you get there? This is something that you are strongly advised to research before you make any move. For a start: you should do your utmost to learn the local language to a level of fluent proficiency. We give non-English speaking immigrants short shrift in this country, so we would not wish to be hypocritical in this way. (more...)

Favourites All Year Round

There are very few places, that come under the classification of Europe, that you can comfortably travel to at any time of the year. Even Greece is nothing like as warm in January and February. However, The Canary Islands are a definite exception to this rule, even though they should really come under the administration of West Africa.

With temperatures ranging between 21 and 28 degrees Celsius, across the full 12 months, this is the biggest draw for the millions of tourists that head to these sun-soaked islands every year. What is more, the islands enjoy a relatively low rainfall for much of the time too.

The islands that make up this archipelago are Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote and all enjoy a good selection of beaches and tourist facilities. (more...)

Favourite Gay Holiday Spots

One of the very first gay holiday spots to emerge in Europe, was the resort of Sitges which can be found very close to Barcelona, in Spain. This was one of the first destinations that gay men and lesbians felt they could travel to and not be subject to disapproval from the majority heterosexual crowd.

This resort is well known for being more gay friendly than the majority of other resorts in the world. The nightlife tends to attract this audience, as do the restaurants, bars and cafes in the area.

Sitges developed at a time when the travel industry were starting to catch on to the idea of the Pink Pound. This is a term that is used to describe that fact that gay people usually have much larger disposable incomes and this is primarily down to the fact that there are usually no expensive kids to bring up. Lap Up Some Affordable Luxury in Australia

There are many places in the world that you could choose to go to on your travels but Australia has to be one of the best. The country has a multitude of landscapes, diverse cultures and a rich history. Travel to Australia is now very affordable which is why many people take the opportunity to go there from all over the globe every year.

Although there are several large cities in Australia to choose to visit, Sydney is one of the most popular. Indeed, Sydney is the largest and most populous city in the whole of the country! This means that there are plenty of things to see and do in and around Sydney, making for a jam-packed, exciting trip.

Whilst people like to opt for fancy hotels whilst staying in the city, nothing beats having the freedom to move about as you please. Getting that feeling of being in a home away from home can be had by opting for the many furnished rentals Sydney has on offer. A serviced, fully furnished apartment in the city allows you to relax in style when you are not out and about exploring. (more...)

How to Find the Best Travel Deals

Travelling around the world is something that many of us fear to be a pipe dream but it can be done. Okay, unless you are a millionaire it is very difficult to be able to do a round-the-world-trip in one go, but we can get there one city at a time! Everyone deserves a holiday now and then but this does not mean that it will drain you of all your money, certainly not if you employ some travel know-how.

Finding the best travel deals is easy to do if you have access to the internet. There are numerous travel comparison websites out there, and it is simple to find a deal that will suit your tastes and budget. With much of the world experiencing hard economic times, now is the time to search for a trip to your favourite destination as you will discover there are great deals to be had.

If you are intending to travel on a tight budget then there are several ways in which you can save a lot of money. Many people like to fly but this can be a very expensive option; if possible, find an alternative way of getting to your destination such as by car, train or ferry as these can be a lot cheaper. If you do intend to fly then try to get as late a deal as possible as the air operators will reduce the prices of seats to try and fill up the flight. (more...)

The Hot Destinations in Europe for 2011

Of course, there will always be the traditional favourites of Europe that will continue to attract the tourists year-on-year. For example, Tuscany Villas will always prove to be a huge draw. However, this article aims to give you a few other ideas for the coming holiday season.

First on the list is going to be Iceland - OK, perhaps this destination is not that hot, but it is a fashionable area to head to! Icelandair has flights from Heathrow, Manchester and Glasgow to Keflavik and you can be there in just a few hours. Experience one of the most colourful and vibrant European capitals - Reykjavik - and excursions such as The Blue Lagoon geothermal heated pool.

For the next destination, we travel to the complete opposite end of the continent - Montenegro. The Budva Riviera is a very up-and-coming resort and there are even chances to head into nearby Albania which must rank as the most mysterious country in all of Europe. (more...)

Apartment Versus Hotel?

If you are planning a holiday in the near future, one of your choices, after the destination, will be where you want to stay and you may have to decide whether you want to stay in an hotel or an apartment.

There are pros and cons of each option, of course. Beach apartments and ski apartments are in some ways more versatile as they offer a more flexible way of living. You can chill out after a hard day on the slopes or the beach, grab a beer when you want to without having to call room service and lie in without the chambermaid waking you up.

The downsides are that apartments are less sociable than hotels as you do not bump into people at breakfast or dinner; and you have to do your own cooking and shopping just as you would at home. You also have to tidy up after yourself as there is no daily clean of the room. (more...)

Keep Informed

If you have any big trip or holiday coming up, you should always keep an eye out for anything happening in that country which is likely to affect your travel plans. This can be anything from natural disasters such as earthquakes to political unrest.

For example, if you had been planning to go to Australia in the last few months, you would have had to keep an eye on Australia travel information to make sure that your destination was not affected by the fires or floods which badly hit the country.

Too many people do not have a clue what is happening in the country which they are planning to visit, which is shown by the fact that people were still flying into Tunisia and Egypt for their annual holiday even when the unrest had started and it was not safe to be on the streets. (more...)

When Travel Becomes Your New Life

Many people have travelled somewhere or other in the world and decided to turn their trip away into a long-term life choice. Usually this will be in the Southern European countries, but as property prices are not as cheap there, as they once were, attention is increasingly turning to farther-flung destinations.

There is a steady requirement for overseas property mortgages and if this is ever a transaction you decide to pursue, there are a few factors that you will need to take onboard beforehand:

Number one is the fact that you will need to undertake VERY detailed research. Do not just scratch the surface with this - you need to leave no stone unturned as far as the legal procedures and taxes that are associated with purchasing property in the country you have in mind. (more...)

Travelling to the Capital on a Budget

We all like to get away for a long weekend and London features very high on the list for destinations to escape to for this exact purpose. The only problem is, when you get there, tracking down cheap central London hotel.

Some people may say that there is no such thing, and compared with other cities in the UK and indeed, worldwide, they may actually have a point. However, if you are prepared to compromise a wee bit here, you may be able to come close to securing yourself some reasonably priced accommodation for your stay in the capital.

Keep away from areas like Kensington, Westminster and other equally opulent and touristy districts and do not even think about the ridiculous prices in Mayfair. You will need to head out of the central area, just slightly, in order to find the very best deals. (more...)

A Year Out

As I get older my thoughts turn from exciting adventures in South America, Australia or Asia and settle closer to home and I have to confess that my perfect mid life adventure would be to go on a gap year spent caravanning around Europe.

Caravans such as Sprite caravans are a world away from what they were a few years ago and if you invest in a good caravan you can expect to live in relative space and comfort with all the mod cons such as a small fridge freezer, toilet and shower and TV.

It is the freedom of life in a caravan which really appeals to me as you do not have to plan ahead if you do not want to, you can take off where you want and settle in any caravan park for the night. (more...)

Camper or Caravan?

If there is one travel related discussion that many people have very fixed ideas on, it is whether a campervan or a caravan is the most practical and there are equally valid arguments in both side's favour.

Sprite caravans and other caravans are said by many to be far more practical than a campervan as they can be towed to your holiday park of choice and then just unhooked and left there. This means that you have your car free for sightseeing and you do not have the problem faced by motor home owners of finding somewhere to park in city centres or crowded beach areas for a huge vehicle.

Owners of motor homes would argue that caravans are more unwieldy as they can be difficult to tow if you are not experienced and it is more difficult to travel from place to place for short periods. (more...)

Transform your Holiday with a GPS

Spare a thought for those who have not yet been converted and who have bought a GPS for their car, campervan or Sterling caravans UK, as they have not yet realised the secret of a happy and far more relaxed holiday in Europe.

Although I joined the GPS scene relatively late, I was converted instantly and I will now refuse to leave the country without one as it takes so much hassle out of driving abroad. You can get from A to B much quicker and you can concentrate on your driving instead of wondering if you are going in the right direction.

Plus, of course, it is far more intelligent that just a talking map as you can choose what type of journey you want such as the scenic route or the fastest route. (more...)

No Need to Travel Too Far

As the economic crisis has really started to take hold this year, it is an absolute fact that most people have far less money to splash out on holidays. The luxurious longhaul flights have literally been forced out of the window and people are looking at cheaper alternatives. We all want a decent break away, but do not really want to compromise on quality. What to do, then, in such circumstances?

First and foremost, it would probably work out far cheaper to remain within the UK this year. This eliminates the need to pay for increasingly expensive flights and also it means that, for once, we are actually supporting the economy of our own country.

Whether you fancy taking a short break in a cosy B and B in Devon or Cornwall, or even Lake District Cottages there is a massive choice of holidays on offer within our own Great British Isles. You may even want to head north and spend some time in the Scottish Highlands - this will prove to you just how beautiful our own country really can get. (more...)

Caravan Holidays Becoming More Popular

Travel can be enjoyable for different reasons. There are many ways to travel and each different experience has its own charm. The experience of hitting the road and exploring, with everything you need right there in your caravan home can be exhilarating, and this is the reason why caravan holidays are becoming more and more popular.

A caravan holiday is therefore like carrying not just your home with you, but also your hotel, and the best part is, you can keep everything extremely flexible. For those who like to travel, a caravan home can be an excellent investment. Companies such as Lunar caravans manufacture caravan homes in various designs and specs.

The caravan homes of today are nothing short of luxury hotels! It is possible to fit your caravans with flat screen TVs, full bath suites and fully equipped kitchens. So your caravan is really like a mini home, and as for other amenities, caravan parks today are usually equipped with Wi-Fi, recreation facilities etc. (more...)
