Travelling to the Capital on a Budget

We all like to get away for a long weekend and London features very high on the list for destinations to escape to for this exact purpose. The only problem is, when you get there, tracking down cheap central London hotel.

Some people may say that there is no such thing, and compared with other cities in the UK and indeed, worldwide, they may actually have a point. However, if you are prepared to compromise a wee bit here, you may be able to come close to securing yourself some reasonably priced accommodation for your stay in the capital.

Keep away from areas like Kensington, Westminster and other equally opulent and touristy districts and do not even think about the ridiculous prices in Mayfair. You will need to head out of the central area, just slightly, in order to find the very best deals.

Never forget that most of London is covered by the Underground network and therefore, you will not be too far from the main sights and attractions in the city.

Then, of course, you will need to book your travel arrangements. To be honest here, you may actually find it cheaper to fly to one of the 5 London airports, rather than catch the criminally-priced train.

If the chemin de fer is your only option, avoid travelling on a Friday altogether, as this is the day that is notoriously the most expensive. If you can travel during the evening then this is likely to prove the most cost effective for you.
